Frequently Asked Questions about Acrylic Markers

Usage, compatible surfaces, delivery, payment, and returns: essential answers before ordering.

An acrylic marker allows you to draw, color, and decorate many surfaces with an opaque finish. The result may vary depending on the surface, its preparation, the chosen color, and the number of coats.

Before starting a project, always test the marker on a scrap piece or an inconspicuous area. This precaution avoids unpleasant surprises, a phenomenon that objects curiously seem to enjoy.

All about acrylic markers

What is an acrylic marker?

It is a marker containing acrylic ink or paint, usually water-based. It offers a more opaque finish than a classic marker and can be used on different surfaces. However, the final hold depends on the material, its preparation, and its use.

What is the difference with an alcohol-based marker?

Alcohol-based markers are mainly designed for drawing and blending on suitable paper. Their finish is more transparent, and they can bleed through thin sheets. Acrylic markers offer a more opaque result and can be used on a wider range of surfaces, with a preliminary test recommended.

Are they suitable for coloring and mystery books?

Yes, especially for adding details, enhancing certain colors, or filling in areas. On thin paper, place a protective sheet under the page and avoid pressing too hard in the same spot. The ink's behavior varies depending on the paper.

How to start a new marker?

Start by gently shaking the marker with the cap closed. If the model has a pump nib, gently pump it on a scrap piece of paper until the color appears. Do not force the nib. For a model without a valve, simply make a few test strokes.

How to store markers for longer?

Carefully close each cap after use and store the markers horizontally, at room temperature, away from a heat source. Avoid leaving a nib uncapped for a long period.

On what surfaces can they be used?

Depending on the model, they can be used on paper, cardboard, canvas, wood, stone, glass, ceramic, or metal. Smooth or high-traffic surfaces may require cleaning, priming, or an appropriate varnish. Always test before decorating the entire object.

What to do if a nib seems dry?

Close the marker, shake it gently, then make a few tests on a scrap piece of paper. Do not add water directly into the marker body and do not force the nib. If the problem persists, contact customer service with a photo or a short video.
